SAPD: Man arrested after randomly shooting at neighbor's home, causing standoff with SWAT on north side

Police say the unidentified man has a history with the law.

SAN ANTONIO — A 44-year-old man is in custody after being in a brief standoff with police for allegedly shooting towards his neighbor's house with a long gun.

Around 2 p.m. on Friday, the San Antonio Police Department responded to the 5700 block of Jones Fall Drive after receiving reports of a shooting in progress. Upon arrival, police learned that the man had begun firing into a neighbor's home, for reasons still unknown.  He fired around seven shots.

While police were speaking with the neighbor, the suspect came out of his home wielding a "long gun" that authorities couldn't immediately identify as a shotgun or rifle. Officers retreated to cover while the man went back inside the home.

A SWAT team was called to the scene along with a negotiating team to try a lure the suspect out of the home safely.

After a short game of "cat and mouse" that saw the suspect going in and out of the home several times, he surrendered to authorities.

SAPD says the individual will most likely face several charges including deadly conduct.  No injuries were reported.
