SAPD: Teen arrested after three injured in north-side shootout, including toddler

The 17-year-old faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Police arrested a teenager in connection with a shooting outside a northside H-E-B that injured three people, including a 3-year-old child, authorities said.

Police say shots initially rang out just before 7 p.m. outside the store at San Pedro and Oblate, where an officer in the area saw a car speeding away. Police followed it to an apartment complex off Jackson Keller just past Shalimar about two miles away, where a 21-year-old woman and her toddler were found "grazed" by bullets, according to Lt. Tom Alonzo of the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD).

Alonzo said officers also found 17-year-old Gabriel Garza shot at the nearby H-E-B, later saying Garza confronted the other victims in the parking lot before he "opened fire." A man who was with the woman and child shot back, hitting Garza, before the group fled to safety and calling police.

Garza faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The three people who were shot are expected to be OK.
