SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police are looking for the person who shot a man in the leg at a northwest-side apartment complex Wednesday evening.
According to SAPD officials, the unidentified victim, 19, and suspect, 42, had a "prior conflict" before the gunfire around 5:39 p.m. in the 7100 block of Snowden Road, near Babcock and Wurzbach.
"There was nothing random about it," said Sgt. Luis Guzman, adding the victim was in stable condition after being shot in the leg.
A preliminary police report said the suspect "flashed" gang signs at the victim and the two got into an argument. The suspect left, came back with a gun and started firing at the victim, striking him in the leg.
Police believe the shooter and victim lived in different units. Authorities found nine casings at the scene, suggesting multiple shots were fired.
According to a witness KENS 5 spoke to, that's exactly what happened.
"I was actually sitting at my desk going over some schoolwork and writing a paper (when) I heard the first barrage of rounds being fired of," the tenant said. "I looked out my window and heard the next set of rounds. I looked out and saw the perpetrator pulling his hand back with a weapon, then I saw the victim on the other end of the vehicle, laying on the ground."
He jumped in to help the victim as first responders arrived, calling his actions "gut instinct." He said he didn't recall hearing arguing before the shots rang out.
Police tried searching for the shooter but Guzman said "more than likely, he took off."
The victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
