SAN ANTONIO — A woman shot in the back and rushed to the hospital was able to name the shooter to San Antonio police officers, and authorities say her neighbors helped point them in his direction.
The shooting investigation at Horizon Pointe Apartments, located off Woodlake Parkway and Interstate 10, quickly turned into a standoff involving SAPD. Police arrived shortly before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday after an unidentified woman called 911, saying she'd been shot in the back.
According to SAPD Sgt. Mario Montoya, the woman told police she and her boyfriend got into an argument in a unit before he shot her. Officials say she then ran into the breezeway where neighbors helped her until EMS arrived.
She's in stable condition.
When police arrived, Montoya said, neighbors alerted them to the 20-year-old suspect, identified as Ray Anthony, who was inside a different apartment at the top floor. Initial efforts to get him to come out weren't successful, but he eventually surrendered around 8 p.m.
"We depend on eyewitnesses, people who are willing to come forward with what they saw," Montoya added. "Because of somebody that was here, we were able to quickly ascertain where the suspect was. If it wasn’t for these people, it’s very likely the suspect could’ve gotten away.”
The woman was also able to help officers find the gun believed to have been used by the still-unidentified suspect.
