Motorcyclist in critical condition after crash involving SAPD officer who was heading to accident

Three vehicles in all were involved, and three people are being treated at a San Antonio hospital.

SAN ANTONIO — A three-vehicle accident involving a San Antonio police officer on the south side sent a motorcyclist to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, officials say.

According to San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) Sgt. David Morales, the officer was traveling along West Southcross near Huron when a motorcyclist somehow "got in front of our officer" and hit the patrol car. The collision pushed both vehicles toward a third, a sedan, that was stopped at a red light.

It's believed the motorcyclist ended up pinned against the sedan before first responders arrived; authorities took the motorist to a local hospital. The SAPD officer and female driver of the sedan were also hospitalized, but are in stable condition.

None of them have been identified. It's unclear if the SAPD officer, who was heading to the scene of a fiery car crash elsewhere, had their sirens on.
