SAPD: Mother facing capital murder charges in death of 6-year-old girl at apartment complex

As of now, it's unclear how the girl died. An investigation is ongoing.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police said a 6-year-old girl, who has been identified as Hosanna Sancho, is dead and a woman is in custody after a disturbance call took a devastating turn. Now, her mother is facing capital murder charges, police said.

Around 3 p.m., officers responded to the Frontera Crossing Apartments on Watson Road,  just southwest of Loop 410.

"Initially it was very chaotic as officers arrived, separating witnesses and people who were involved," said Sergeant Washington Moscoso of the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD). A 6-year-old victim was discovered deceased.”

Police say Sancho was found dead inside the apartment and a woman, who is related to the victim, quickly became a suspect in the homicide investigation.

“It was a female who was running around unclothed at the scene," said Sgt. Moscoso. "That kind of added to the chaos.”

Police reportedly questioned the woman and then took her into custody.

“She has said some stuff to detectives," said Sgt. Moscoso. "Again, all of that is going to be evidence at this point, so I can’t say what she said.”

Residents at the complex expressed shock and sadness.

Investigators are still trying to figure out exactly how Sancho was killed.

“There was no gun or gunshot wound to the victim," said Sgt. Moscoso. “The child did die from trauma to the body, just not a gunshot wound.”

Police say the girl's mother, identified as Nephiteri Sancho  is facing capital murder charges in this case. Capital murder is applied when the murder victim is under the age of 10 years old.

SAPD released this mugshot of the suspect, which was from a previous arrest.
