'Someone is going to get killed' | SAPD, BSCO & DPS shut down several street takeovers Saturday night

A neighbor who captured one of the takeovers warns these dangerous meet-ups could have potentially deadly consequences.

SAN ANTONIO — Several agencies worked together Saturday night to take down a series of street takeovers across Bexar County.

The majority of them were reportedly on the west side. 10 people were arrested and are facing a variety of charges ranging from reckless driving to unlawful carry of a weapon and drug possession, according to San Antonio Police.

Paisley Lane captured one of the takeovers as she was driving home near Culebra Road and Benrus Boulevard around 11 p.m.

“I was like 'Woah what is happening here,' I’ve never seen anything like this in my life,” Lane said.

She said she saw what seemed like 100 teenagers lining the streets.

“I was like the first car when they all pulled up and started all this chaos,” Lane said.

She was blocked in, so she pulled out her phone and went live on Facebook, capturing a driver doing donuts and a passenger sticking his head out of the vehicle.

“I thought somebody was going to die so that’s why I pulled out my camera because I was like 'Oh my gosh, I have to document this,' something bad was going to happen,” she said.

She said after about five minutes, the group drove off.

“God forbid nobody got hurt that time, but I don’t know what happened the rest of the night,” Lane said.

San Antonio Police said the SAPD’s Southwest Texas Fusions Center was monitoring the situation and SAPD officers, DPS troopers and BCSO deputies quickly put an end to the chaos.

“They think it’s fun just driving around, hey meet up, let’s take over, take our drones, and spin our cars around and next thing you know, someone is going to get killed and hurt,” Lane said.

According to police, eight vehicles were impounded. One of the vehicles had a fake license plate. It is unclear if any were stolen. Two guns were also confiscated.

“We don’t need that here in San Antonio, we don’t need our streets being taken over like that,” Lane said.
