Body with gunshot wounds found in Olmos Basin area, SAPD says

Police believe the body had been there at least 24 hours before someone walking by noticed it.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police are investigating after authorities say someone discovered a body with several gunshot wounds on the north side, in the area of Highway 281 and Dick Friedrich Drive. 

Police responded to the area around 3:40 p.m. and are investigating it as a homicide. Medical examiners have identified the victim as 19-year-old Alexis Jose Vegas.

Several shell casings were found nearby, according to SAPD Sgt. Ryan Edwards. 

Vegas was found in a grassy area and had been shot all over his body. Officials believe he was left there for at least 24 hours before his body was found.
