SAN ANTONIO — A third Clemens High School student was arrested in a 24-hour span for allegedly making terroristic threats when he said he would "shoot up" the Schertz campus, authorities say.
Officials with the Schertz Police Department said the arrest was separate from a Tuesday investigation that resulted in two other students being taken into custody for similar crimes.
The latest arrest came when an administrator contacted a school resource officer at Clemens just before 2 p.m. Wednesday, notifying them of a student "making threats to bring an explosive to school and to shoot up the school," according to a Schertz PD release. Campus personnel found that juvenile student, who "confirmed that he had made the statements."
He was arrested and faces third-degree felony charges of making a terroristic threat. On Tuesday evening, police said, two students were arrested when they were found with a stolen gun in a backpack during an after-school event.
Just this week, the Texas Department of Public Safety said it received 204 "school safety-related reports" in September, up from 89 in September 2023, through its iWatchTexas reporting system. Some of those reports, DPS said, involved potential threats.
Authorities are now reminding parents to talk with their children in the aftermath of the two incidents at Clemens High School.
"There are lifelong consequences for making such threats," Schertz PD officials said in their release. "We want to remind our community members that if you hear or see something suspicious, please report it to the police."
Any such information can be reported by calling (210) 619-1200, which goes to the Schertz Police Department.
