CONVERSE, Texas — A man was shot after crashing into another vehicle while being pursued by Texas Department of Public Safety troopers on Monday afternoon, officials say.
DPS officials say troopers attempted a traffic stop on a black Dodge Caravan off of Interstate 35 near Sommes Road in Comal County.
Officials say the 38-year-old male driver of the Caravan tried to evade troopers, resulting in a high-speed chase. The Caravan eventually crashed into a white Chevrolet Tahoe off of Loop 1604 near FM 78 in San Antonio.
A trooper made contact with the driver of the Caravan, who was reportedly ignoring commands. The trooper then attempted to Tase the suspect several times but was unsuccessful. He then shot the suspect in the chest, officials say.
Officials say life-saving measures were performed on the man, who was taken a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Officials say there was also a female passenger in the Caravan who was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries.
There were two occupants in the Tahoe. The female passenger was hospitalized with unknown injuries while the male driver remained on scene with no injuries, officials say.
The Texas Rangers are assisting with the investigation.
This is a developing story.
