Folks fishing for something to do before or after the Thanksgiving festivities can visit the freshly stocked lakes and ponds of South Texas.

Texas Parks and Wildlife started stocking rainbow trout today, a pursuit the organization takes on yearly to promote fishing at local waterways.

Through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Neighborhood Fishin’ program, lakes and ponds in urban centers throughout the state will be stocked this winter with catchable rainbow trout.
"This is a wonderful and unique opportunity that we provide for winter fishing. On those milder winter days, bring the family and friends out for a day of fun," Tom Lang, TPWD inland fisheries biologist, said.

The program is designed to be a fun and easy way to introduce young anglers to fishing.

There are 18 locations stocked in 11 communities through Neighborhood Fishin'.
