SAN ANTONIO -- Antique shows are being asked to be on the lookout for family heirlooms stolen from one of San Antonio most renowned artists.
Over the years Carlos Cortes has designed and built notable concrete works of art like The Grotto along the Museum Reach of the River Walk and at the Witte Museum Tree House.
However, this weekend it was 20 smaller concrete sculptures made by his late father and great-uncle that were stolen from his art studio off SouthSt. Mary's St.
These things mean something to me because my dad made them, said Cortes, who learned the art of Faux Bois (French forfalse wood) from his father. To me - it's priceless.
The art thieves also made off with five masks that were going to be added to The Grotto along the River Walk, and $3,000-worth of iron sculptures made by local artist, Chris Tilton.
I guess they are going to decorate their club house or something, because they can't put them out in public because they are pretty unique, said a frustrated Tilton.
If you have any information on the whereabouts of these stolen art pieces, you are asked to call the San Antonio Police Department.
