SAN ANTONIO — A local restaurant owner is asking for help after he received some life-changing news.

Keenen Hendricks, owner of Smack's Chicken Shack located at 125 Lamar St., revealed in a GoFundMe campaign that he has been diagnosed with a brain tumor.

"As you can imagine, this diagnosis has been a shock to my family and me," said Hendricks, a father to two daughters.

According to the fundraiser, Hendricks' treatment plan includes radiation therapy to shrink the tumor, followed by surgery to remove what's left. Hendricks is reaching out to the community asking for help raising money for these expenses.

"Running Smacks Chicken Shack has always been a labor of love, and it’s hard for me to step back during this time. But my priority now is my health and making sure I’m here for my girls in the future. Your support, whether it’s a donation or simply sharing this page, would mean the world to us," Hendricks said.

The goal of the GoFundMe is to raise $15,000. As of Monday afternoon, he has raised almost S8,000. Click here to see the page.
