U.S. Department of Education announced today that San Antonio's Fox Tech High School is a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School, the only school in San Antonio, and one of just 18 in Texas and 269 nationwide.
The honor recognizes campuses based upon their overall academic excellence, or for making progress in improving student academic achievement levels.
Fox Tech was named a 2012 nominee in January in the category of dramatically-improved student performance to high levels on state tests, and was selected for the Blue Ribbon Award following a rigorous application process through the DOE.
Recipients will be honored during a recognition ceremony in Washington, D.C. that takes place in November.
Dawn Parker is Fox Tech s principal.
The school's first Blue Ribbon award was bestowed in 2000 under the leadership of Joanne Cockrell, now principal of SAISD s Jefferson High School.
