Officials believe homeless activity led to fire in vacant west-side home

The house had burglar bars on the windows, but the front door was wide open when they arrived.

SAN ANTONIO — Firefighters battled a blaze in a vacant home on the west side of town late Tuesday night.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. in the 1900 block of Colima Street near Guadalupe Street and South Zarzamora Street.

First responders found the building engulfed in flames, with fire shooting out around the windows and overhangs around the whole house when they got there.

Crews say the house didn't have utilities, but that a live wire had dropped on a nearby fence.

Since the vacant home had burglar bars, but also an open front door, investigators believe homeless activity may have led to the fire.

Officials say the house is a total loss.

This is the latest vacant house fire among several so far this year in San Antonio this year.
