Small fire in vacant downtown building

It appears the building has been vacant for a while but there was evidence of transients inside.

SAN ANTONIO — Crews put out a small fire just south of downtown late Saturday night.

It happened just after 9:20 p.m. on the 500 block of Roosevelt Avenue near South St. Mary's Street.

Firefighters found the empty building with smoke coming from the inside.

Once they gained access, crews were able to put the small fire quickly.

No one was inside the building and no injuries were reported. It appears the building has been vacant for a while but there was evidence of transients inside.

Investigators are working to determine the cause.
