SAFD: Woman escapes house fire south of downtown, puppy dies

Officials say the fire started outside of the house, but quickly spread to the garage and inside the home.

SAN ANTONIO — A woman was able to escape from a house fire that took the life of a puppy, SAFD says.

San Antonio Firefighters responded to the 200 block of West Dickson Avenue, not far from South Flores Street on the south side of town, around 5:45 a.m. Monday for reports of a fire at a home.

By the time fire crews arrived, the fire had spread from outside of the home where it started, and into the garage and the interior of the house.

Officials say a woman who lives at the home was able to escape from the fire, but sadly a puppy did not. It was killed in the fire.

A car that was parked inside the garage was destroyed. Fire officials say the house is a total loss because the fire burned through the attic of the home.

No word on themonetary damage caused by the smoke and flames.

No injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
