SAN ANTONIO — A beloved downtown San Antonio rock bar announced on Monday that it will close its doors after 25 years.
In a Facebook post, Bonds Rock Bar said the property has been sold to a developer that will tear down the building to begin construction on a new hotel. The upstairs venue will close at the end of the year while its downstairs bar will remain open until developers begin the hotel project.
Located along the scenic River Walk, the live music venue and bar boasts some of the lowest drink prices downtown. The downstairs bar features entertainment including a Jukebox, big screen TVs for sports events, pool tables and dart boards. The upstairs venue has hosted local, state and national bands playing rock music including Classic rock, Punk, Alternative, Metal and more.
“We are grateful for your support over the years. We will always cherish the memories and great friends that we have made,” the bar’s Facebook post reads.
The announcement joins a growing list of local bars, restaurants and other long-running businesses closing their doors over the past few years, citing various factors from the rising cost of goods to a hiring shortage.
Bonds Rock Bar says remaining live music performances are scheduled every weekend until the end of the year for anyone wanting to catch a show at the venue before it closes. Plus, merchandise will be available for sale until it runs out.
