SAN ANTONIO — $100,000 are heading to Queretaro, Mexico to fund an exhibit titled "Al Otro Lado del Espejo," which translates to "The Other Side of the Mirror."
The exhibition, set to open in September, will feature 15 San Antonio artists, poets and storytellers.
"This is giving 15 San Antonio artists an opportunity to showcase their work internationally, which broadens their professional development opportunities, but also gets people excited about coming to San Antonio," said Krystal Jones, executive director with the city's Department of Arts and Culture.
Last year, the San Antonio International Airport added direct flights to Queretaro, which also shares a history with the Alamo City going back to the San Antonio Missions.
"We know that the future of the North American economy, let alone ours, is being written on the relationships between the United States and Mexico," said San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg. "And part of that is the relationship that we've had with some of the cities in Mexico."
The mayor hopes this will eventually lead to a sister city relationship between Queretaro and San Antonio.
"They lead to educational exchanges, economic partnerships, historic and cultural activities," he said. "And so this is part and parcel of establishing and cultivating a sister city relationship."
