SAFD: Fire destroys vacant structure near downtown

Firefighters were met with heavy flames when they arrived at the location.

SAN ANTONIO — A vacant building was destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon near downtown, SAFD says.

San Antonio firefighters responded to the 200 block of Roy Smith Street near 281 and I-35 around 12:52 p.m. for reports of a fire.

Firefighters were met with heavy flames when they arrived at the location. It was upgraded to a second alarm due to exposure potential, according to SAFD spokesman. Firefighters were able to get it under control quickly and the second alarm was canceled.

No injuries were reported. This is a developing story.
