SAN ANTONIO, Tx— San Antonio’s historic Fire Museum is hosting a Labor Day Festival featuring a day of fun, food, and live performances.
The festival is a fundraiser for the SAFD Fire Museum, raising money to maintain the museum’s building maintenance, improvements, and education efforts.
Roger Garcia is a retired member of SAFD and said the Fire Museum was started in 2013 by retired firefighters.
“Everyone that works there is a retired firefighter. They all volunteer their time. And there's family and friends that also help out,” said Garcia. “And, it incorporates all the history of the San Antonio Fire Service from the mid-1800’s.”
The San Antonio Fire Museum is a stroll through history showcasing vintage photos, fire trucks, and fire gear.
Garcia said the museum’s location used to be the SAFD Station 1.
The Labor Day Festival has evolved over the years, bringing the biggest festival yet happening this Sunday, Sept. 1.
A lineup of popular local performers, like country music superstar Jerry DeLeon, will be taking the stage. Other activities include BBQ plates, cornhole tournament, Car Show, and more.
It’s free to get in the festival, and the museum is also raffling off a 2024 Chevy Silverado pickup truck. Raffle tickets are $100 each, and only 500 raffle tickets will be sold.
The festival kicks off at 11am and goes until 10 p.m. at the Mission County Park #2, 6030 Padre Drive.
The San Antonio Fire Museum is located behind the Alamo at 801 E. Houston St.
