San Antonio Food Bank helps families have food for Thanksgiving Dinner

They've reached their donation goal to have 20,000 turkeys. They're now looking to collect 30,000.

SAN ANTONIO — We're two days away from Thanksgiving and the San Antonio Food Bank is utilizing all of its resources to make sure families have food on the table.

The food bank has been holding a donation drive to cover 29 counties in South Texas.

They serve over 100,000 people a week, and their goal has been to collect 20,000 turkeys.

The SA Food Bank announced they met this goal, so they created a new one to collect 30,000 turkeys to fight food insecurity during the holidays.

Seeing a spike during the holidays, it's staff says they've already given out 70% of the turkey's they've brought in.

To help out you can donate online.

You can also drop a turkey off at the food bank in person.

Beyond food and money donations, the food bank says it also needs your help sharing online and volunteering.

"We've got boxes to pack and produce bags to put together and and food distributions. If you can lend a little bit of hand we could sure use it this holiday season," says Eric Cooper, San Antonio Food Bank Director.

If you need help, the food bank has multiple distribution spots around South Texas.

The SA Food Bank partners with meals on wheels to do deliveries.

They also prepare meals to feed the homeless.

A new initiative they've created is a digital voucher program to get a ticket on your phone to grab a turkey for free at the grocery store.

For more info you can call them at 210-431-8326.

Leftover turkeys that are not given out to families will be held over for Christmas.
