SAN ANTONIO — A man is accused of killing his girlfriend’s father over the weekend. However, it’s not the first time Franco Xavier Summers, 32, has been charged with murder.
The victims’ families told KENS 5 they were "failed by the justice system."
Just before 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, police responded to reports of a shooting near Taco Palenque off Blanco Road. Authorities say Summers shot and killed Christopher Fuentes, 43, in front of his daughter during a heated argument.
“Franco looked me in my eye and then shot my father,” said Virginia Fuentes-Gonzales. “I keep seeing my father’s face once he realized that he was shot. I'm constantly replaying images in my head at night, I can't sleep.”
In January of 2013, Summers was involved in another deadly shooting. Authorities say Summers killed 17-year-old Roger Rodriguez Jr., who was related to his ex-girlfriend.
“My brother tried protecting me and that’s all he did,” said Rodriguez’s sister. “The outcome was him dying.”
Court records show Summers was charged with murder and aggravated assault in connection to Rodriguez’s death. However, those charges were dismissed a few months later.
“He claimed self-defense and said that my brother had threatened him or had a weapon,” said Rodriguez’s sister. “I don’t think a weapon was found on my brother or anywhere near him.”
“You don’t shoot someone four times in the back and get away with it because you claim ‘self-defense,’” Rodriguez’s mother added.
The Rodriguez family is furious Summers is charged in the death of a second person.
“To hear he has killed someone else again, it definitely brought back a lot of emotions,” said Rodriguez’s sister. “A lot of pain, a lot of hurt.”
“First, he kills my son, and now this?” asked Rodriguez’s mother. “Losing a child is the worst pain a mom can go through. [Virginia] saw her dad get killed, I saw my son get killed. Are they going to listen to me now? Are they going to listen to Chris’ family now?!”
Court records show Summers has a lengthy criminal history. He served time for holding a woman and child hostage back in 2019.
Both families are demanding the Bexar County District Attorneys Office bring Summers' latest murder charge to trial.
