SANANTONIO-- One murder suspect is in jail and now San Antonio police have issued a second arrest warrant in connection with a weekend murder.
Martin Mata is wanted in the death of Christopher Rodriguez. Police believe Mata and Robert Christopher Pelayo killed Rodriguez Sunday night in the 200 block of Belden.
SAPD arrested Robert Paul Pelayo and charged him with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He remains at the Bexar County Detention Center trying to make bonds that total more than $1 million.
According to an arrest warrant, Pelayo gunned down Christopher Rodriguez following an argument over $20. He also reportedly shot the victim's cousin,Jesse Gonzales. It happened Sunday night in the 200 block of Belden.
Witnesses report Rodriguez was arguing over the phone with Pelayo about the money. They say the suspect came to the Belden home where the two fought. Guero, as Pelayo is known on the street, allegedly tried to hit some women at the location and called them a profane name. The warrant said that's when Gonzales punched him.
Investigators said the 22-year-old suspect ran from the scene but promised to return. He reportedly came back with a man in a dark colored compact car. The warrant said one of the suspects opened fire on the house. Rodriguez was shot in the chest and stomach, police said. He died at the scene. Gonzales was shot in the arm and was taken to a local hospital.
Police said before the 22-year-old victim left for the hospital, he told them, Guero shot me. According to the warrant, police were able to develop a second suspect from witness accounts. He has not been arrested.
