Police search for man who allegedly fired shots at random at northwest-side apartment complex

SAPD asked residents in the area to shelter in place during the standoff with police.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police were asking residents on the northwest-side to shelter in place Monday night as they worked to apprehend an older man who was allegedly firing shots at random, causing bullets to pierce some units, authorities at the scene said. After about four hours, officers were able to enter his apartment, but found he was no longer there.

Police believe he escaped his unit at some point during a hours-long standoff with guns drawn and drones out.

This happened at an apartment complex in the area of Glen Ridge Drive and Evers Road about 10 p.m. Monday night.

According to SAPD Public Information Officer Camelia Juarez, police know who the suspect is and are working to detain him.

Residents were allowed back into their apartments around midnight.

Juarez said officers also responded to the same area Sunday for reports of a "suspicious vehicle and someone firing shots." It's believed the same suspect was involved.  Juarez said they know the man but were waiting until he was in custody to identify him, saying only he was in his 60s and has a criminal history.

Police tell us they will continue searching for him and will update us when they find him.

This is a developing story.
