SAPD: Police chase ends in gunfire after armed car robbery at northeast-side parking lot

Police said the suspects were taken into custody and will face aggravated robbery and evading arrest charges. No one was injured in the pursuit.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Police said two male suspects are in custody and facing charges after stealing a vehicle and leading police on a chase Sunday afternoon on the northeast side of town.

SAPD said it all started outside a store on the 1500 block of Austin Highway near Harry Wurzbach Road as the victim was sitting in a White Ford Explorer waiting for a family member. That’s when two armed suspects came up and stole the vehicle.

Police said detectives were able to track down the vehicle at an apartment complex on the north side off Harry Wurzbach Road where officers attempted to pull the suspects over. Instead, police say the suspects took off, leading police on a chase all the way to Schertz off FM 1518.

The passenger in the stolen Explorer was also waving a gun outside the vehicle, according to police.

As the suspects traveled down FM 1518 near lower Seguin Road, they reportedly crashed into another car and got out of the vehicle. That’s when police say the passenger with the handgun pointed it at officers, prompting officers to fire off their guns, hitting the Ford Explorer.

Police said the two 22-year-old suspects were taken into custody and will face aggravated robbery and evading arrest charges. No one was injured in the pursuit.

SAPD confirmed this incident is being investigated as an officer involved shooting since the officers fired off their weapons. The officers have been placed on administrative duty for now.
