SAN ANTONIO — A suspect wanted for an alleged assault on a San Antonio Police Officer has been identified.
According to an arrest affidavit, Jose Angel Rodriguez is facing charges of aggravated assault against a public servant after he sped off during a traffic stop, dragging the police officer several yards.
Authorities say the officer initiated a traffic stop on the suspect's vehicle near the 1200 block of Roosevelt Avenue on Saturday. During the stop, the victim noticed a firearm in the back seat of the vehicle and attempted to remove it.
That’s when the suspect sped off, dragging the officer and fleeing the scene toward an unknown direction.
The victim sustained a laceration to the back of the head along with other minor, non-life threating injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.
The arrest affidavit says police were able to locate the suspects vehicle at the address in its registration the following evening and not long after, detectives were able to identify the suspect, issuing a warrant for his arrest.
