SAN ANTONIO — A local teacher is accused of sending nude photos and kissing a 17-year-old student at Kennedy High School, according to an arrest affidavit.
The teacher has been identified as 29-year-old Miguel Angel Nava Jr., who court documents claim confessed to communicating with a Kennedy student and sending nude photos of himself to the student through Instagram, the affidavit says.
A student who told school staff that she doesn’t even know the victim, raised a red flag after hearing about the nude photos and felt concerned for the victim’s well-being, officials said.
An interview was conducted with the victim who said Nava Jr. found her on Instagram and began communicating with her and sent three nude photos of himself, according to the affidavit.
Police also questioned Nava Jr. who admitted kissing her in his classroom but denied engaging in any other sexual activity. The student also denied having a sexual relationship with Nava Jr.
Investigators said when they questioned the Geometry teacher, he not only admitted to sending photos, but voluntarily gave up his cell phone to allow a search. Investigators confirmed they found nude photos on the teacher’s phone and matching photos when they searched the victim’s phone.
Detectives also detailed interviewing the parents of the girl, saying that the mother of the victim was clearly upset and shocked because the man was previously her younger daughter’s teacher at a local IDEA school campus. The affidavit claims the younger child was also interviewed and she denied being abused by Nava Jr. The affidavit does not specify at which IDEA campus Nava Jr. taught.
The IDEA school system issued the following statement:
“IDEA is aware of an arrest involving an individual who left the organization in May 2023. The individual has not been associated with our organization since last spring, and the arrest does not relate to IDEA, our campus, or any allegations raised during employment. As this is an ongoing investigation, all further questions should be directed to local law enforcement.”
The affidavit does not indicate whether Nava Jr. had any similar allegations with other students, but Edgewood ISD issued the following statement:
“Edgewood ISD was made aware of a teacher accused of solicitation of a student. The Edgewood ISD Police Department took immediate action with an investigation and obtained an arrest warrant. The teacher is no longer employed with EISD.
Due to legal reasons and privacy laws, EISD is limited to the information that can be shared.

Nava Jr. is not listed on the website for Texas teacher certifications. Edgewood officials said that is because the man had been involved in a teacher training program and was employed with a one-year temporary status.
Charges include improper relationship between educator and student, which is a second-degree felony and a misdemeanor charge of distributing harmful matter to a minor. His bonds totaled $60,000 and he was able to post bond and be released within hours.
Nava Jr. is due in court for a hearing on Feb. 28.
