San Antonio officials address citywide construction concerns

One lane blocked off on the Interstate 10 frontage road for months has drivers scratching their heads.

SAN ANTONIO — No matter where you live in San Antonio, your commute probably crosses construction on the road these days. So what are crews working on and when will they finished?

First, a stretch near the Interstate 10 East Frontage Road, just east of Camp Bullis Road and west of La Cantera Parkway before Loop 1604, has been closed off for months.

On one hill going into town, the far left lane is blocked off by construction barrels. Those that live and work here say it has been that way for several months, and they want to know why.

Kendall Lacy, who works at PJ's Coffee Drive Thru nearby, told KENS 5, "Every time I have to go to the Rim or La Cantera or anywhere past this road."

She passes these barrels that have the far left lane blocked frequently.

"I figured it was part of the expansion they were doing. I know they were doing construction to expand the lanes so its been there for a little while. I haven't actually seen anything change over there," Lacy said.

Eventually the construction barrels turn into a concrete barrier. We reached out to TxDOT in an attempt to get answers.

They said in a statement, "There is one lane closed on the eastbound I-10 frontage road near the Oak Hills Church. The frontage road in this area is three lanes across and the furthest left lane, closest to the main lanes, is closed for work related to right of way, drainage, illumination and utility work. This work is part of Segment 2 of the Loop 1604 North Expansion project. We have not received any concerns related to lane closures in this area."

No word from TxDOT on when this lane will be cleared, but Lacy says she can't wait until the construction is done and the backhoes take a back seat.

"Its great when its expanding and its great when its finished but its been a long time now and its really frustrating," she said.
