SAN ANTONIO — Hundreds gathered for a block party on San Antonio’s east-side on Sunday.

The annual Hallo-east Community Block Party is hosted by the group San Antonio for Growth on the East-side or SAGE.

There was no shortage of food, fun, entertainment and of course plenty of candy… That is, 400 pounds of candy to be exact.

Event organizers say this event is not only a great way for families on the east-side to connect with each other but also to showcase the great, yet often misunderstood part of the San Antonio community.

“There's a perception sometimes that the east-side may not be perceived as safe or may not be perceived as welcoming and that is false,” said James Nortey, SAGE. “This is an opportunity to retell our own story that the east-side, just like any other part of the community, is safe. we want to celebrate with our whole community.”

There were also a lot of different vendors at the party letting everyone know about all the resources they have access to on the city's east-side.
