Man critically injured after hit by vehicle while trying to cross dark street

Police say the driver did stay at the scene but was being evaluated for driving while intoxicated.

SAN ANTONIO — A man is fighting for his life after being hit by a truck on the north side of town Saturday night.

San Antonio Police say the man, who is in his 60s, was trying to cross the street at Fredericksburg Road and West Craig Place just before 9:30 p.m. when he was hit by a driver in a pickup truck.

The victim was taken to University Hospital in critical condition.

The truck driver stayed on the scene and was evaluated for DWI and found not to be intoxicated. Police say it doesn't appear the driver was speeding. The area where the victim was trying to cross is dark and the driver told officers that he did not see the man.

No word right now on whether any charges will be filed. No other injuries were reported.
