SAPD: Men arrested after string of tail light thefts

The theft of tail lights is a crime that has been plaguing the community. Police warning that it's happening across the city.
Police say 22-year-old Leonard Hernandez and 24-year-old Isaac Camacho were arrested after they were caught on surveillance video stealing tail lights from a truck.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Police say they have arrested two men in connection to the theft of tail lights.

During a traffic stop, police say they found a dozen tail lights in the SUV they were driving. San Antonio police say they are seeing an uptick in tail light thefts.

On July 10, San Antonio Police say 22-year-old Leonard Hernandez and 24-year-old Isaac Camacho were caught on home surveillance video stealing tail lights from a pick-up truck on Roosevelt Avenue. 

In the video investigators say they were able to identify the license plate of Hernandez's Jeep, which police say was used during the theft. Police also say that Camacho was the lookout, while Hernandez stole the tail lights.

On July 26, police say Hernandez was captured again on video stealing tail lights this time on the east side, and the south Side at the Mission Del Lago Subdivision.

Police were able to identify Hernandez's jeep because the entrance to the subdivision has a Flock Video System, which records vehicles coming in and out of the subdivision.

According to an arrest warrant, later in the day police were able to track Hernandez to his home and began watching his house. When Hernandez left to go to a gas station, police pulled him over and Camacho was also in the vehicle.

Police say in the vehicle they found, drugs, a gun and a dozen tail lights.

Police also say during the arrest Hernandez is captured on police body cam video telling them that Camacho picked him up earlier in the day from the south side and he loaded the tail lights into the trunk.

Police say the tail lights were valued at $4,000, both Hernandez and Camacho are facing property theft charges.
