When will trash pickup happen this week in San Antonio?

Here's what to expect this week, per city officials.

SAN ANTONIO — Another holiday week in San Antonio means not all services will be available, particularly on Thanksgiving. 

Vital departments like police and fire will remain in operation for emergences (and in some cases keeping a closer eye on the roads), but most city offices will be closed or running on modified schedules. But if you have to return a library book, want to visit Centro de Artes at Market Square or have business with the municipal court system, you'd best get that done before Thursday. 

Operating as normal Thursday and Friday

  • San Antonio Police Department
  • San Antonio Fire Department
  • Other city EMS personnel
  • Animal Care Service officers on duty
  • Code Enforcement officers on duty for inspections and emergencies 
  • Municipal court magistration, SAPD detention center 
  • City parks and trails
  • Limited Fitness in the Park classes

On adjusted or mixed schedules

  • 3-1-1 Call Center available from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. for "urgent concerns," like animal requests and traffic signal glitches.
  • Collection for garbage, recycling and organics scheduled for Thursday will instead happen Friday. Friday collections will instead happen Saturday.
  • Shops at La Villita and Market Square closed Thursday, open Friday.
  • Alamodome box office closed Thursday, reopening Friday and Saturday. 
  • ACS lobby and adoption center closed Thursday, open Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m .
  • Spanish Governors Palace closed Thursday, open Friday. 

Closed or not operating

  • Bitters Brush Recycling Center closed and reopening Saturday. 
  • All four city bulky waste dropoff centers closed and reopening Saturday.
  • San Antonio Public Library locations closed. 
  • Darner Headquarters, Parks Reservations Office 
  • City of San Antonio Community Centers, the Natatorium, Fairchild and McFarlin Tennis Centers, the Barrera Community Fitness Center, and the Wheatley Heights Sports Complex.
  • All Metro Health clinics and offices
  • Head Start administrative offices and school district site
  • Doris Griffin and Alicia Trevino Lopez Senior Centers (staffed by WellMed)
  • All Pre-K 4 SA Education Centers closed through Friday
  • Pre-K 4 SA Corporate Office closed through Friday
  • San Antonio Municipal Court
  • SAPD’s Administration and Records Section
  • SAFD Administrative Offices
  • Most Senior/Adult Comprehensive Centers
  • Senior Nutrition Sites
  • Willie Velasquez, Claude Black and Frank Garrett community centers
  • Child Care Services administrative offices
  • Homeless Connections Hotline and Veteran Services
