SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio veteran is celebrating his 100th birthday on Thursday, October 24.
Ralph M. Gonzalez was stationed at Chengkung Airfield in the Republic of China, in the Himalayas mountains, during World War II.
The base was dismantled after the war so it is no longer there, but Ralph's memories endure.
He told his daughter Diana that his crew repaired the B-52's on the base. Ralph went on to work at Kelly Air Force Base for many years after serving in the U.S. Army Air Force.
