'It's an evil person' | Witness recalls hit-and-run involving a 13-year-old boy, police searching for driver

This happened Sunday around 5:30 p.m. at the Alamo Park Apartments off Austin Highway. Fortunately, the boy is OK.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police are searching for a driver they believe ran over a 13-year-old boy then drove off.

This happened Sunday around 5:30 p.m. at the Alamo Park Apartments off Austin Highway.

KENS 5 spoke to a witness who dialed 911. She wanted to remain anonymous but said she is doing what she can to help investigators catch the driver.

“It was absolutely the worst thing I ever seen,” she said.

Fortunately, investigators said the boy suffered non-life threatening injuries. The witness said she was able to speak with his mother Monday night who said he was sore but resting at home.

She said she was outside, walking her dog, when she saw the SUV drive towards a group of boys playing in the parking lot of the apartment complex. The 13-year-old victim was on a scooter.

“Then I see this black SUV and between the back two tires, I see a scooter on the ground,” she said.

She said the driver of the SUV drove away as if nothing happened. She said she then ran inside to grab her phone to dial 911.

“His upper half of his body is underneath the car with his legs sticking out and the car back right tire just runs right over his midsection,” she said.

She believes the driver knew they had hit something. But was not able to get a picture of the vehicle or the license plate number. She said in that moment her focus was on the child.

“That person is still out there that they didn’t care and they’re still driving around somewhere,” she said.

She posted on the Nextdoor app in hopes of finding other witnesses and went door knocking in her apartment complex to see if anyone had surveillance videos. However, she has not had any luck yet.

“They must not have kids,” she said. “I don’t know. It’s an evil person.”

San Antonio police said when the driver is caught they will be facing a failure to stop and render aid charge.
