The San Marcos Police Department said goodbye to one of their own Wednesday.
Funeral services for Officer Kenneth Copeland, who was killed in the line of duty, were held Wednesday morning at Community Bible Church in San Antonio. A procession started in San Marcos at 8 a.m. and traveled down I-35 and Loop 1604 to the church.
Officer Copeland was killed on December 4 while serving a domestic violence warrant. He was shot by a suspect several times. Stewart Thomas Mettz has been arrested and charged with capital murder.
The San Marcos Police Department says the 58-year-old had come in on his day off, as he did on most of his days off. He had served almost 20 years with the police force. He was also an active reserve for the U.S. Coast Guard.
This is the first time in the history of the San Marcos Police Department will say goodbye to one of their own killed in the line of duty.
Officer Copeland leaves behind a wife and four children.
