SAPD cruiser involved in crash after driver fails to yield right of way to emergency vehicle

That pickup truck driver showed signs of intoxication and was arrested on suspicion of DWI by police.

SAN ANTONIO — Police are investigating what caused a crash involving a San Antonio Police cruiser.

It happened just before 10 p.m. Saturday night in the intersection of Fredericksburg Road and Callaghan Road near the Medical Center area.

Our cameras caught the aftermath of the crash and the damage to side door of the police cruiser.

Police say the officer was responding to an emergency with lights and sirens activated and another vehicle failed to yield when they crossed through the intersection. That driver did have a green light but failed to yield to the emergency vehicle.

That pickup truck driver showed signs of intoxication and was arrested on suspicion of DWI by police.

The officer was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
