'You never know when it'll be someone's last day | Friends remember woman hit, killed by speeding driver

Police said a person was driving a stabbing victim to the hospital when they hit and killed 24-year-old Anastasia Valdez.

SAN ANTONIO — A 24-year-old woman was hit and killed early Wednesday morning by a driver who was taking someone with stab wounds to the hospital, according to San Antonio police.

The woman who died has been identified by friends as Anastasia Valdez.

Police said Valdez died when a speeding car hit her around 3 a.m. on the Loop 410 access road in between Callaghan Drive and Manitou Drive on the northwest side

Officials said no charges will be filed for the driver who was speeding to the hospital with their stabbed passenger. The stabbing victim, a 29-year-old man, told police he was attacked during an argument in the area of Aurora and Hortencia on the west side, but "the suspect was not located" by law enforcement.

Authorities said the two incidents are not related.

Now friends of Valdez are grieving a person they said always had a smile on her face.

“I was very shocked because she was always very cautious about who she hung out with…she was just very young," said Valdez's friend, Chris Lozano.

Lozano said Valdez was a light in the community, and the person who always offered a shoulder to cry on for those in need.

"She really did not care who you were, she welcomed everyone from all walks of life with an open heart.”

"Her smile and energy was cherished when she was here…it goes to show it doesn’t matter how young you are you can’t take life for granted…you never know it’s going to be someone's last day.”
