SAPD: Elderly man killed after walking into traffic, hit by driver

The driver stayed on the scene and is not facing any charges.

SAN ANTONIO — A man is dead after police say he walked into traffic and was hit by a driver on a southside road.

Just before midnight on Saturday, police say an elderly man, identified at Ricardo Escobedo, 77, was waiting at a bus stop off Southwest Military Drive and South Flores Street when investigators say for some unknown reason, the man walked into traffic.

A driver tried to swerve to avoid hitting Escobedo, but the truck traveling behind the first driver didn't have time to stop. Escobedo was hit and died at the scene.

The driver stayed on the scene and is not facing any charges.

Police are calling it a tragic accident.

No other injuries were reported.
