SAPD identifies Brandeis students involved in fatal crash

A Brandeis High School student has been taken off life support following an accident during the students lunch break on Tuesday, according to the family's lawyer. The family's attorney has identified the student as Georgina "Gina" Rodriguez.

UPDATE:A second Brandeis High School student involved in an accident during her lunch break on Tuesday has died. Family attorney and friend Loraine Efron said Gina Rodriguez died overnight. She was 16.


SAN ANTONIO -- A Brandeis High School student has been taken off life support following an accident during school lunch break on Tuesday, according to the family's lawyer.

The family's attorney, Loraine Efron, hasidentified the student as Georgina Gina Rodriguez, 16.

Rodriguez and three other students were hospitalized following a crash on the Loop 1604 access road at the Hausman Road intersection -- not far from Brandeis High School.

San Antonio police said the driver was racing with another car of students when he tried to pass a large truck on the left but did not realize the truck was turning left onto Hausman Road.

Their Mitsubishi Lancer then slammed into a utility pole.

Gabriela Lerma, 17, was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

In addition to Rodriguez, the driver and another girl were still recovering in the hospital as of Wednesday morning. San Antonio police have identified the driver as Antonio Flores, 19, and the front passenger as Monique Castaneda, 18.

Police also identified the occupants of the truck as Ricardo Sandavol, 49, and Oscar Rios, 27.
