SAN ANTONIO — A man has died in police custody after being arrested by officers with the San Antonio Police Department, officials say.
The 40-year-old man was arrested by officers in the 1100 block of Bandera Road at Cheryl Drive around 11:15 a.m. on Saturday after he was observed "pulling front door handles at an apartment complex," according to police.
Police say the man appeared to be under the influence of something, so he was detained and was taken to a city facility to receive health care services at the 600 block of N. Frio.
He became unresponsive at the facility and EMS was called. He was pronounced dead.
The medical examiner will conduct a death investigation to determine the cause of death, and SAPD internal affairs will conduct an investigation on this incident, as per department protocol.
