Detectives and officers on the scene found some signs that indicated it may not have been natural, SAPD Officer Roger Zuniga had said. However, police said it was too early to tell.

On Christmas day, a family member had driven to the 100 block of Queens Crescent, near Trinity Baptist Church, to do a welfare check on Bowden because he hadn't been answering his phone, police said.

Upon entering the home, the man saw Bowden's body 'laying in a dried pool of blood' and immediately called police, according to the police report.

Officers and paramedics arrived and determined that the man was deceased.

Further investigation led officers to believe the victim was killed between Dec. 12 and Dec. 25.
