SAPD: Man dead after losing control of vehicle, hitting utility pole then wrapping car around tree

The 25-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

SAN ANTONIO — A 26-year-old man is dead in a crash that involved high rates of speed, a utility pole and a tree, police say.

San Antonio Police responded to the 10700 block of South Zarzamora Street around 10:38 p.m. Sunday for reports of an accident.

Officers say that the man identified as Abel Meza, 26, was apparently speeding when he lost control of his vehicle, hit a utility pole, then wrapped his car around a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.

Police say that someone who was passing by the location saw the crashed vehicle and called first responders.

No other injuries were reported.
