Man suspected of drunk driving crashes into home on northwest side, police say

Firefighters are shoring up the damaged area and will make sure the structure is stable.

SAN ANTONIO — A man suspected of driving drunk has crashed into a home on the northwest side of San Antonio, SAFD says.

San Antonio firefighters and police responded to the 1500 block of West Mariposa Drive, not far from Interstate 10, around 2:30 a.m. Monday morning for reports of a vehicle hitting a home.

When first responders arrived at the house, they found a truck partially inside the front of the home. The driver, a man in his 30s, told them he tried backing up his pickup truck, but crashed into the wall instead. Firefighters told police that the suspect appeared to be asleep behind the wheel when they arrived.

Firefighters say he left a gaping hole in the front of the structure. There were at least four people inside the home when this occurred. Fortunately, nobody inside was hurt when it happened.

At one point, firefighters had to shore up the home. That is basically a temporary structural fix to keep it from collapsing.

The driver was detained on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

He was taken from the scene for further questioning.

This case remains under investigation.
