SAPD: Man shoots at son, tells officers to 'shoot him' during standoff with police

55-year-old Anthony Blackburn faces a charge for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after police say he shot at his son outside his home on the southwest side.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Police ended a standoff with a man they say fired his shotgun at his son on the city's southwest side of town.

The standoff happened at a home on the 600 block of Elks Drive near Nogalitos Street around 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17.

According to an arrest affidavit, 27-year-old Anthony Blackburn notified officers that the suspect is his father, 55-year-old Anthony Blackburn.

The victim told officers that he went to Blackburn's house to talk to him after an argument the father had with the victim's mother over the phone.

The arrest affidavit states that Blackburn met his son on his front porch before returning into the home and exiting with a shotgun pointed at the victim.

Police say the victim then entered his truck and began driving away from the location. Blackburn fired the weapon, striking the vehicle. The victim was not injured and drove to a safe location where he contacted authorities.

Following the shooting, SAPD said Blackburn went back into his house and told officers to "shoot him." Officers did set up a quadrant around the house but decided to use a de-escalation tactic and stand down.

SAPD did not initially make an arrest in the shooting because they said they were waiting for the man to "cool off," advising his family not to go inside the house until he calmed down.

Blackburn was arrested and faces a charge for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
