SAPD officer dragged by car with two suspects on a 'beer run,' police say

The officer has road rash and a bruised knee from being dragged about 30 yards behind the car.

SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio police officer is injured after he was dragged by a car with two men on what police say was a "beer run" on the northwest side.

Investigators say he was trying to stop the two men over stolen beer from a convenience store.

A sergeant on scene told us the officer has road rash and a bruised knee. Fortunately, he is expected to be okay and back on the job despite being dragged by that car.

We are told he was pulled about 30 yards before he threatened to shoot the two guys. This all happened just before 10 p.m. Monday night at the QT on Huebner Road and USAA Boulevard.

Police say the officer was about to go on break when the clerk told him about the stolen beer. The officer walked out and demanded the two men get out of their car but instead they tried to take off.

The officer held on just long enough to threaten them which led them to stop the car.

Both men were arrested at the scene. Police tell us they will be charged with robbery.

They will also face a second charge but it's unclear if it will be for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon or assault on a police officer.

This is a developing story.
