NISD police officer shoots woman at Farris Athletic Complex, officials say

A woman drove towards the officer in a threatening manner, prompting him to draw his weapon and fire one round, officials say.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police responded to a shooting in progress at the Farris Athletic Complex on Saturday.

Northside ISD spokesman Barry Perez confirmed that a district police officer shot a woman at Farris Stadium around 1:30p.m.

According to a statement from Perez a woman was acting aggressive while in her vehicle in the stadium parking lot.

NISD officials say her behavior drew the attention of an NISD officer who was at the scene directing traffic prior to a football game at the stadium.

The woman continued to act in a belligerent and aggressive manner toward the officer, Perez said.

Preliminarily reports say the woman drove towards the officer in a threatening manner, prompting him to draw his weapon and fire one round.

The woman was hit in the arm, Perez said.

She was transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

NISD officials say the officer involved in the incident has been placed on administrative duty pending an investigation.

The officer has been with the NISD Police Department for 3 years and 9 months.

SAPD will be conducting an investigation into the incident.

Perez said the shooting occurred in the stadium parking lot and did not involve any NISD students.

The scheduled football game took place without incident.

Police said at no time were any students or adults at the event in danger.

This is a developing story.
