Homeless woman in hospital in critical condition after being hit by a car, police say

Police say she was crossing the street when she was hit by a driver who said they didn't see her.

SAN ANTONIO — A woman is in the hospital in critical condition after being hit by a driver who police say didn't see her.

It happened around 3:40 a.m. on Monday near the intersection of Vance Jackson Road at De Zevala Road on the city's northwest side.

Police say the homeless woman was trying to cross the street with a shopping cart when she was hit by the driver who told officers he was on his way to the corner store to get some snacks.

The victim was taken to University Hospital in critical condition.

The driver did stop to render aid and is not expected to face any charges.

This is a developing story.
