15-year-old boy stabs man in what police say was 'random act of violence'

Police say the 15-year-old suspect was trying to get away from them when he ran into the victim's backyard and stabbed him.

SAN ANTONIO — A man is in critical condition after he was stabbed by a suspect trying to get away from police on the city's north side near Olmos Park late Saturday night.

It happened just after 10 p.m. on the 300 block of West Wildwood Drive near San Pedro Avenue.

The idea that a teen was behind the stabbing is making neighbors feel uneasy.

"That’s what makes it even more scarier, like you know, teens aren’t threatening. At least, I usually don’t think that they are," said one neighbor.

Officers were initially called Saturday night to West Mariposa Dr. for a possible assault in progress and mental health related call.

When police arrived, the 15-year-old suspect ran to West Wildwood Dr., the next street over. That's when police noticed him running with a knife in his hand.

Police say the suspect didn't stop when they told him to so they used a taser and took the boy into custody. While the teen was being arrested, another call for a stabbing came in from West Wildwood Drive.

Officers say a 33-year-old man was in his driveway when the 15-year-old boy walked up and stabbed him in the chest.

The victim was taken to the hospital.

The 15-year-old boy was arrested and faces a charge of aggravated assault.

No other injuries were reported.
