SAN ANTONIO — A new casual concept eatery in the Medical Center announced it is closing after just five months in business, according to a Facebook post.
Saucy Birds, at the intersection of Fredericksburg and Callaghan, announced on its Facebook page that the lease for the restaurant will not be renewed.
In the post, owner Ceasar Zepeda said, "Our industry is going through a tough time and local restaurants need your support now more than ever."
Zepeda said he did not want to close the restaurant abruptly "as many others have" and the last day will be May 31. He said they may host pop-ups in June to help out local businesses.
This comes after the Zepeda announced in December that his long-running restaurant, Sangria on the Burg, would close at the end of 2023. The restaurant was in the same location as Saucy Birds. Fans of the restaurant saw Zepeda's new Saucy Birds open just weeks after Sangria on the Burg closed.
